A culturally diverse family residing in Barcelona is seeking a highly experienced tutor for a full-time, after-school role to educate their children, a 12 year old boy and a 10 year old girl. The tutor will bring expertise in Humanities, Social Sciences, Philosophy, and Languages, particularly in English and Spanish. The 10 year old girl is a creative and vibrant spirit with a love for languages and the arts. She is an active member of her school's drama club, where she not only hones her acting skills but also develops a deeper understanding of character development and storytelling. Her favourite teacher leads the English Literature class with a unique approach, blending traditional teaching methods with creative exercises. This style of teaching aligns with her imaginative nature, encouraging her to delve deeper into literary works and express her interpretations creatively. She is also drawn to music, finding joy and inspiration in jazz and opera performances. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, an activity that she finds both exhilarating and calming. She also shares her family's enthusiasm for hiking, often engaging in lively conversations about the natural world during their outdoor adventures.

Role of the Tutor

For the boy, the tutor's role will be multifaceted, focusing on deepening his engagement with Social Sciences and Philosophy. This will involve stimulating discussions on political and historical topics, mirroring his interest in these areas and his participation in the school's debate club. The tutor will encourage him to explore various literary genres and cinematic works, helping him draw connections between these media and his academic subjects. Additionally, the tutor will guide him in developing effective study techniques and organizational skills, crucial for his success in upcoming GCSE examinations. The tutor will also incorporate outdoor activities like cycling and hiking into his learning, aligning with his interests and providing a holistic educational approach.

For the girl, the tutor will play a key role in fostering her talents in languages, literature, and the arts. This will include enhancing her creative writing skills, encouraging her to express her ideas and emotions through various literary forms. The tutor will also focus on expanding her appreciation for English and Spanish literature, using interactive and creative teaching methods. Incorporating drama and music into her curriculum will be important, especially in nurturing her interest in jazz and opera. The tutor will provide structured learning experiences that balance her creative tendencies, ensuring she develops analytical skills alongside her artistic abilities. In addition, the tutor should have a flair for designing educational experiences that extend beyond traditional classroom settings, particularly during family travels. The tutor should incorporate visits to historical sites, museums, and cultural events to enhance the children’s understanding of different cultures and historical contexts. Engaging in local traditions and language immersion activities will also be pivotal. This approach aims to provide a real-world context to their studies, making learning an exciting and interactive process. The tutor should be skilled in integrating these experiences into the children’s overall educational framework, ensuring continuity and depth in their learning journey.

Hours and Holidays

The Tutor will be available for an average of up to 40 hours per week. Preparation time will be in addition to this.

The Tutor will be entitled to two consecutive days off per week, but it is essential that they understand the need to be flexible regarding the family’s travel plans and other commitments.

The Tutor will have a minimum of 9 weeks off per annum, to be taken at times agreed upon with the family. The Tutor will be flexible with respect to any changes in schedule, be they travel-related or otherwise and will adapt accordingly. The Client will strive to give up to two weeks’ notice of any planned alterations.

Accommodation, Travel, and Miscellaneous

The family will provide separate accommodation near their home in Spain. During travel, the family will ensure the Tutor has private accommodation. A car for local use will be provided, or a public transport allowance when more suitable. All expenses will be covered by the Client except for the Tutor’s personal phone bill. The successful candidate will be able to offer more than the minimum requirements of this position and must have been raised in a socially appropriate background. He or she will not only be an excellent educator, but also a good role model: educated and polished, with excellent manners and personal values.The Tutor must be a fit, healthy and a non-smoker – active and energetic with a love for the outdoors; the kind of person who always makes the most of their environment to enhance teaching and learning opportunities.
