Students
Having just completed Year 2 at his international school in Dubai, the eldest of the three brothers is the main focus of this role. He is an active and sociable 7-year-old boy, who enjoys being outdoors and active. He loves building things and often thinks very creatively. He loves nature and is always intrigued by how things work.
As a bit of a perfectionist, he has a tendency to ‘zone out’ when he struggles with something as he feels ashamed that he doesn’t understand. In his early years, he was very slow to write, but with persistence from school and home, he now writes constantly in his notepad and thoroughly enjoys it.
The young man is a tall and athletic, and enjoys many sports. He has recently started Taekwondo and particularly likes the discipline of this martial art. He also enjoys trampolining, doing tricks and flips, and very much enjoys his after school chemical engineering club.
As an Emirati citizen, the student must take first language Arabic and Islamic studies at his current school. Although his father is a native Arabic speaker, the family speak English at home and the vast majority of his studies take place in English. The young man finds himself falling behind his peers and the family are keen to use the summer to ensure he catches up and improves both his confidence and his fluency in the Arabic language.
The middle brother, who will be starting school in September, will likely join in with some of the tutoring sessions and follow along as much as possible to increase his exposure to the language as well.
Role of the Tutor
First and foremost, the Tutor must be a fluent Arabic speaker. The successful candidate will need experience of teaching Arabic to young children and must be able to create and administer reading and writing lessons that enthuse and engage him. They will need to ensure the Year 2 Arabic curriculum content is mastered. The family envisage the student will work with the Tutor for up to 4 hours a day. While there will be some formal classroom-style learning required, the Tutor will be expected to include fun activities, games and sports to actively incorporate Arabic into the everyday life of the children.
The ideal Tutor will manage the students' learning by supplementing the school curriculum, with enriching, project-based and location-based learning driven by his interests. Learning opportunities through play and sport will be critical. The Tutor must have the ability to make lessons entertaining and memorable.
The Tutor will have access to all the student's Arabic schoolbooks to help assess his strengths and weaknesses. The Tutor will also need to liaise with the family in advance of the role starting to ensure any resources needed can be sourced.
Hours, Holidays, Accommodation & Travel
The Tutor will spend at least 4 hours a day, 6 days a week working with the children. This may be as classroom time, excursions, sports, activities or a combination thereof. The Tutor will need to be fully flexible regarding the timing of these hours – some days will see them working with the boys in the morning, others in the afternoon. Preparation time will be in addition to this.
Given that this is short term role, the Tutor will not be entitled to any holiday.
The Tutor will be flexible with respect to any changes in schedule, be they travel-related or otherwise and will adapt accordingly.
The Client will provide private accommodation for the Tutor at all locations.
All expenses will be covered by the Client except for the Tutor’s personal phone bill.
Miscellaneous
The successful candidate will be able to offer more than the minimum requirements of this position and must have been raised in a socially appropriate background. He or she will not only be an excellent educator, but also a good role model: educated and polished, with excellent manners and personal values.
The Tutor must be a fit, healthy and a non-smoker – active and energetic with a love for the outdoors; the kind of person who always makes the most of their environment to enhance teaching and learning opportunities.
