The boy received his early schooling in Moscow, and has had to switch from Russian to English. Because of this transition, and other problems, the boy would probably fail in a normal school and, to avoid the likely loss of confidence and self-esteem, he is being home-schooled. He has been receiving a specialist educational program and this has helped with some of his difficulties interpreting language. The boy is eager to learn, and is a delight to work with. He is a happy child with a pleasant demeanour, and only occasionally shows his frustration when he feels he is failing.
Education
The position requires a non-traditional approach where experiential learning, visits to places of interests, outdoor activities and project work will be the norm. The teacher will need to be dynamic and energetic, full of creative fun and ideas, and able to develop a curriculum that covers the requisite material outside a formal classroom setting.
The family are not really looking for an SEN teacher as such, just someone with experience of working with children who need extra support and encouragement. It is hoped that patient work, over the next year or so, will develop appropriate skills and bring the boy to the required grade to rejoin a normal school next year.
Schedule
There is an elder sister, aged 11, who will also have some of the tutor’s time, each day, to help with her homework.
Other factors
Accommodation may be possible for an exceptional candidate who cannot take up the post otherwise.
If the tutor needs to relocate to take up the position - either from abroad or from within the UK - a car will be provided for the use of the tutor. They will also be entitled to holiday travel back to their own home.
For an exceptional candidate the client is prepared to consider a ‘buy-out’ to the school or organisation that holds the applicant’s contract, to compensate for early termination to meet the client’s preferred start date. The exact details of such an arrangement will be discussed with short-listed candidates.
