Students
The three children - a 12-year-old boy and identical twin girls who are 9 - are academically gifted, intellectually curious, and actively engaged in a variety of extracurricular interests. All three attend school and participate in multiple sports and creative activities, including skiing, basketball, soccer, volleyball, ballet, theatre, and music. The family describes them as well-mannered, energetic, and highly capable across disciplines.
The boy plays the drums in two bands and thrives under the guidance of instructors who are knowledgeable, structured, and clear in their expectations. He values academic relationships where teachers respect his autonomy but provide high standards. Past frustrations have stemmed from a lack of support or clarity from educators, which the family is keen to avoid moving forward.
The twin girls, while extremely close, have distinct academic and personal preferences. One responds well to tutors who are confident, attentive, and affirm her abilities. She appreciates regular feedback and seeks intellectual challenge from adults she admires. The other benefits from a gentler approach, often needing support with how she approaches and tackles new problems. She values integrity and calm, steady encouragement. Both girls have had experience with underwhelming classroom dynamics where they felt underserved due to limited individual attention, and they now respond best to tailored, one-on-one engagement.
All three children are well ahead of grade level in various areas, and the family seeks to preserve and build on this momentum with the help of a dedicated Tutor who can complement their natural strengths with structure and support.Role of the Tutor
The appointed Tutor will be responsible for the full academic oversight of three gifted children, ensuring each student is appropriately challenged and supported both during term time and throughout school holidays. This is a long-term, full-time position that will require an adaptable, intellectually curious, and highly organised professional capable of both nurturing academic excellence and building meaningful, individual relationships with each child.
The Tutor will work with the three children after school and on weekends to reinforce their core academic skills, with a focus on English and mathematics. The role will involve providing subject support tailored to each child’s learning style. The Tutor will monitor progress, identify any areas of under-stimulation or lack of stretch, and design supplemental instruction that pushes the students’ capabilities while remaining aligned with their curriculum. The Tutor will also be expected to fill gaps left by more rigid school systems and provide targeted instruction during holidays, acting as both a teacher and a mentor. During term time, the Tutor may offer evening and weekend academic support, as well as strategic guidance on school projects or longer-term goals.
The Tutor must be capable of striking the right balance between academic rigour and relational warmth with each child, offering challenge without pressure, and structure without rigidity. While strong teaching credentials and subject knowledge across the core academic disciplines are essential, equally important is the ability to adapt style and tone to suit each child’s personality and needs.
The family places a strong emphasis on character development, emotional intelligence, and the fostering of internal motivation. The Tutor will be expected to model these values, serving not just as an academic instructor but as a mentor and role model. Experience with gifted education is essential, as is the capacity to cultivate a passion for learning that transcends grades or school requirements.
This role will also involve academic enrichment during school holidays, where the Tutor may design short intensive units of study, travel-based learning experiences, or projects aligned with the children’s interests in areas like science, the arts, or global cultures. The Tutor will need to be a proactive planner, able to manage a dynamic and shifting schedule, and confident in taking initiative while remaining respectful of the family’s rhythms and routines.
Ultimately, the Tutor will become an integral part of the children's educational journey and day-to-day life, offering not only academic guidance but also long-term mentorship, tailored challenge, and steady, thoughtful support through their formative years.Hours, Holidays, Accommodation and Travel
