The Student
However, his Dyslexia is severe enough to require both a reader and scribe in exams, and his predicted GCSE scores are not quite on course for straightforward acceptance into 6th form. He is determined not to allow this to get in his way of success and is looking forward to the caring support of an excellent and patient Tutor to help him succeed on his own merit. He prefers teachers who are able to relate their subject to real-life, who are firm yet kind, have a sense of humour and who do not shout.
The Tutor
The student is preparing for GCSEs in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths, English, Business Studies, History and PE. Of these he needs the most help in Maths and the Sciences. Here the focus needs to be on ensuring that foundation knowledge is secure and that both applied skills and factual knowledge are practised and learned. In English, he needs help learning his poetry and memorising the key facts for compare and contrast exercises. He is much more secure with Business Studies, History and PE but is keen for the Tutor to quiz him extensively to reinforce his knowledge of the factual content of these subjects. Tied into all these subjects is the need to develop efficient study, revision and test-taking strategies that suit someone with a reduced attention span.
Given the wide range of subjects and the greatest areas of weakness, it is envisaged that the successful candidate for this role will be an experienced Science teacher who extended their subject range over their professional career, and someone who has an excellent academic track record of exam preparation.
The family’s property has a good range of equipment available. This should enable a resourceful teacher to find a way to make practical demonstrations of the Science and Maths topics.

If required, the Client will also take the Tutor to and from his home to their accommodation but given the rural location of this assignment it would be better if the Tutor had their own car.
