Education
This position is about learning in its widest sense, about bringing the beauty of knowledge into the mind of the student, free from the pressures of school timetable and repetitive chores. The tutor will need to develop inter-disciplinary projects that are exciting and educational, involving multiple teaching and learning styles.
Other factors
Close collaboration with the parents, and other mentoring professionals supporting them, will be an integral part of the job. While not essential at the start, the tutor will need to become familiar with local teaching standards and state tests, so that the girl can be smoothly reintegrated into High School.
The student is highly intelligent, gregarious and engaging. She is well behaved, well motivated, respectful and polite, and she has an extraordinarily mature outlook regarding her own education and standards. The student is passionate about theatre, dance and singing, and is the sort of young learner that makes teaching a joy. There is an undiagnosed possibility of dyscalculia, and so the teacher will need to be creative in the use of different methodologies to help develop strategies for managing this difference.
Schedule
In practice, hours will be variable and the tutor should anticipate accommodating significant alteration to the timetable as the education unfolds. One of the key advantages to home-schooling is the freedom to change plans quickly, as circumstances may arise, and the tutor will need to remain flexible and easygoing.
Accommodation, Travel, Transport
While travelling with the family, all expenses for the tutor (but not the spouse/partner) will be covered. During these trips, the tutor should expect some light childcare duties.
A car will be provided for any trips with the student. A car may also be available for personal use of the tutor, by arrangement with the client. The tutor must have a current driving licence, and will need to get a Colorado licence soon after taking up the position. There is an excellent and free public transport system in Aspen which the client anticipates the tutor will make full use of.
