The tutor’s role will be to help the student with her homework and to fill in any gaps in her knowledge and understanding. The subjects required are Math, English, General Science, General History, Geography, and French. The tutor will need to be familiar with the US educational system.

There are some indications of learning difficulties - perhaps a non-verbal learning disorder or dyscalculia - and the tutor will need to be sympathetic to, and capable of developing, strategies for managing this as the workload and level of difficulty of the school work steadily increase.

An ability to read music and play a musical instrument would be an asset. The girl loves animals and rides horses, and the position would be especially suitable for someone whose personal interests include equestrian pursuits.

The working hours will generally be Sunday through Thursday, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm - with a break for dinner. Some additional light duties may be required, such as collection from school or riding classes after school. The tutor will need to be flexible regarding these hours as family circumstances may make them subject to change at short notice.

A comfortable apartment with all modern amenities will be provided near the family home. The client will cover the main outgoings on the property except for telephone bills.

A car will be rented in the tutor’s name, and the client will pay a specified sum towards the costs of the car and car insurance, for travel to and from work. All personal use of the car will be at the tutor’s expense. The tutor must have a current driving licence and will need to take the California driving test soon after they take up the appointment.

The tutor will be entitled to approximately 12 weeks vacation per year. It is expected that these will generally follow the US school vacation times of Christmas, Spring Break, Thanksgiving and the Summer.
