London, SW15
(PUT-0411)
This position is not currently available.
A Tutor is required for a part time position in London SW15, starting September 2011.
Student
The student is 6 and is currently in Y1. He attends a good pre-prep school in London where he is currently in the bottom third of his year group. He is an energetic and personable young man. An educational assessment last year revealed little of note except that he has relative reading deficit, perhaps caused by having been taught using different approaches in the past.
Another possible explanation for the insufficiency in his reading is that he was educated bilingually in France for the majority of his childhood. He needs to keep his French, both for the social advantage this will bring him in general and because of his application in October to another school.
The student has a busy schedule including lots of homework, piano and violin practice after school during the week. At the moment he is getting French lessons with his sister (age 7) on Saturday mornings, and Kumon maths daily.
Role of the Tutor
The most important focus for the next academic year should be reading. With this in mind, the Saturday morning French may be dropped, and an additional hour and a half, twice a week on Monday and Wednesday added. During this time, the Tutor will work with the boy to bring his reading up to a better standard, using the same method as his current school, supported by extra activities to reinforce and develop his competence in this area. It is likely that this will overlap into helping with his homework due to the time constraints.
Hours, Travel, and Accommodation
This is a part time position, on the basis of either 3 or 6 hours a week. These hours will be distributed as 4.30 — 6pm Mondays and Wednesdays, and, if arrangements can be made by the family, 3 hours on Saturday mornings.
The client will reimburse the Tutor for the cost of public transport as needed to get to and from the job.
No accommodation is provided for this role.
