The boy’s ambition is to be a professional tennis player, and he is about to move to a prestigious training academy in Perugia, Italy. (Until now, the boy has been enrolled at a top-flight private school in London). Perugia is an attractive historical town in Umbria - population 150,000 - some 100 miles south-east of Florence.
The long-term academic goals are not yet clear, and depend on the outcome of the tennis training. If the boy is successful, long-term tutoring will be extended into A-levels and university entrance.
Education
The client recognises that this subject range is very broad. The ideal tutor would be a strong science teacher, who is also highly literate, with a personal interest in languages and history.
Tutoring will need to fit around a full training and tournament program - the time available for studies will be approximately 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. The tutor will need to be highly organised and keep good records. The boy will only take each GCSE when the tutor feels a top grade is more-or-less certain. The boy will remain enrolled in his London school, who have offered to support him with course materials and assessment as required - the tutor’s collaboration with the school will be an important aspect of the job.
Attributes
The right tutor will join in and support the boy outside of the teaching, sharing in day-to-day activities such as running the apartment, meals and other light duties. The job will require flexibility, close communication with the coach, and creativity and fun to keep the studying moving forward through a punishing, 6-hours-a-day, training schedule.
Accommodation & Holidays
Holidays will be taken at times convenient to the client and the coach. The tutor should expect to have 9 weeks off per year as per our standard Terms of Business.
