The client requires that each child has their own tutor who will educate and develop the “whole child”. Each tutor will provide formal education as well as looking after physical development and social skills. This demanding role will cover a wide range of subjects and skills from Maths to Music, art to animals, companion to chaperone.
Each tutor will be highly-educated, intelligent, well-travelled, responsible and practical, with a wide range of personal interests that they can bring to the role. Each should be a fully-qualified teacher and with a minimum of 5 years professional teaching experience.
This is demanding remit, requiring skilled educators and role models who will be given extensive responsibilities. In full consideration of the range of skills and experience required, salaries will be set at a very high level.
Role of the Tutor
The children all lead active lifestyles, including many sports. The tutors will be responsible for planning and arranging opportunities for the children to be involved in a variety of sporting activities, taking advantage of local facilities. They will also be responsible for taking them to and from these activities during the week and at weekends. Transport will be provided for this.
An important aspect of the role is that of mentor. Opportunities to provide a wide range of cultural experiences should be exploited to encourage the children to grow as well-rounded, socially-adept individuals.
The family would like one tutor for each child so that each tutor can truly focus their attention − the children should not be not held back by compromises caused by their siblings’ requirements. It is also important that the tutors are able to work as a team as it will be necessary to co-ordinate the teaching programmes of the three children. It is anticipated that one of the appointees will be given a managerial role in respect of the other two tutors.
The tutors will be responsible for specifying and ordering any books and other resources required to deliver the syllabus. The client will meet all such expenses.
Students
13 year old girl - She has been taught both in schools and by a private tutor in the past and has done well. She enjoys horse riding, particularly dressage, as well as other sporting activities.
11 year old boy - He is also an able pupil who has enjoyed his time in education so far. He is bright and articulate, like his sister. His passion is reptiles - he has a collection of snakes and lizards and is interested in their biology and behaviour as well as the practicalities of keeping them. He enjoys sport, particularly basketball.
6 year old boy - He is potentially very bright, but is often frustrated by the limitations of his age, particularly when he compares himself with his older brother. He has an active imagination and draws prolifically. There is a possibility that he has some specific learning difference, but no formal assessment has been carried out. He is somewhat shy and his social development will need particular attention from the tutor.
Hours and Holidays
The family recognise the importance of the tutors having time off - this will typically be one day each weekend. However, it must be remembered that the priority is the children, so the tutors need to be flexible in this regard.
The tutors will be entitled to nine weeks holiday per year. This will normally be taken during the conventional school holiday periods and will be agreed in advance with the family.
Other Aspects
The family expect to travel on occasion and may require one or more of the tutors to accompany them. In these instances the client will cover all expenses.
The family places high importance on the development of lifelong fitness for their children, and the tutors will enjoy participating in sports, and will be non-smokers.
Each position would suit someone educated at a private school, with top academic honours from a prestigious university. Preference will be given to candidates with an impeccable, demonstrable track record in professional teaching.
