Puerto Rico (PR1004)
This position is not currently available.
Application deadline: Tuesday, May 1, 2012

Background

An American family from New York, now living in Puerto Rico, are looking for a tutor for their 17 year-old son. The young man is talented and highly intelligent, and the post requires an inspirational teacher. The contract term is for 2 months in the first instance, which may be extended by up to a further 6 months.

Duties

The student will be home-schooled while he completes his High School curriculum. The syllabus has been set by the school and it will be the tutor?s responsibility to assess whether the young man can demonstrate that he has mastered the skills and acquired the knowledge required for graduation. This should be achieved by focusing on the skills and knowledge, without the drudgery of unnecessary repetition or homework from which well-motivated, bright students rarely benefit.

Subjects and hours

The required subjects are Physics, Math (Calculus), English Literature, Spanish and Drawing. An ability to help support Puerto Rican History would be an advantage. The hours of work will roughly follow the normal school day, but the tutor should allow for some flexbility. Weekends will generally be free unless mutually-acceptable alternative arrangements are made with the student and client.

Other factors

There may be some travel to the east coast of the US to look at possible colleges for the young man.

It is likely that the family will relocate during the assignment term ? it is not yet know where this will be. The client will meet all expenses for this travel.
