Europe (MAL-1014-Y.1)
This position is not currently available.
An experienced early years teacher is required for this full time tutoring role working with a girl of 9 and a boy of 7. This is a joint tutoring role with two other Tutors who will be responsible for the general education of two older children.

The position is based mainly in Europe with frequent travel to three separate countries. The job starts in January 2015, initially for 18 months, and will be renewable annually by mutual agreement between all parties for several years.

Tutors International have been responsible for the education of the four children in the family since May 2012, and, in addition to this position, is currently providing two Tutors. They are principally for the older children; a Science and Maths specialist, and a Humanities specialist. This position is available as the current Tutor is leaving to complete a PhD.

Students

The girl is an intelligent pupil with an effervescent personality. She is ambitious to acquire knowledge and skills and eager to please her teachers and mentors. Whilst she is highly competent for her tender years in ICT and languages, she demonstrates the greatest aptitude in English and Performing Arts. She is currently reading stage 16 texts from the Oxford Literacy programme. Her eloquence in speech derives from her fluency as a reader with a voracious appetite for literature. As a consequence her reading is above her expected age range. She has been developing basic language skills in Italian and French and enjoys learning through practical, real life experiences. She is following the UK Key Stage Two National Curriculum.

The boy is vivacious and energetic with a strong work ethic. He is currently at stage 10+ of the Oxford Literacy program. He endeavours to give of his best at all times and exhibits a healthy competitive streak. Despite his academic capabilities he invites and requires reassurance and is somewhat reticent to embrace working independently. His strongest suit is Mathematics. He is following the UK Key Stage One National Curriculum. He is naturally inquisitive, an attribute that is an asset in any educational programme. His progress attests to his application in all subject areas.

The competencies of both pupils over an array of subjects are testimony to their innate intelligence and appetite for learning.

Role of the Tutor

The appointed candidate will be highly educated, intelligent, well-travelled, responsible, practical, and down-to-earth with a sense of fun and a wide range of personal interests they can bring to the role. The Tutor needs to be a native English speaker. The ideal Tutor will be physically fit and active. The children will respond best to a young, positive, friendly and enthusiastic person who can provide a broad range education.

The children will be home-schooled until age 16 at least. The Tutor will need to design and deliver a course that solidifies the extent of their schooling to date and progresses them at least as quickly as the best schools, but without being pressuring or overbearing.

It will be essential for the Tutor to maintain meticulous, up-to-date records of achievement for all the children and across all their subjects.

The Tutor will need to work with the children together, but the differentiation of their lessons is extremely important. The Tutor will need to work closely with the other Tutors and the Client to establish what works best for the children in any given situation. Some of the specialist areas of the curriculum will be addressed by either the other two TI Tutors or external teachers, notably Languages, Music and Art.

There is a well equipped and dedicated schoolroom in all locations; the Tutors will be responsible for ensuring that each remains organised and properly stocked. The Tutors will also need to be responsible for packing and moving any teaching materials they wish to take between the locations or use during periods of travel.

Hours, Holidays, and Accommodation

This is a full time position and, as far as possible, will need to follow a carefully planned timetable. The Tutor should expect to work around 40 hours per week with preparation in addition. The Tutors will be entitled to an average of two consecutive days off per week, normally at the weekend, but may need to be flexible regarding the family’s travel plans and the children’s other activities.

The Tutor will be entitled to 9 weeks (45 days) holiday per year. This will be taken at times agreed with the Client. It will usually be broadly in line with ‘standard’ school holiday periods.

Furnished accommodation will be arranged for the Tutors in all locations. This may be an apartment, house, or guesthouse at the Client’s properties. It is likely that the Tutors will need to share the accommodation.

Travel and Miscellaneous

The family have homes in three European locations, and travel frequently between them. In addition, this home-schooling arrangement gives the family freedom to travel so the Tutors should expect trips further afield.

The ideal applicant will be single, a qualified teacher, with plenty of experience, enthusiasm and energy. He or she will need a track record of preparing students for excellence and must be capable of adapting their working style to fit the variable circumstances of working with four children at home or while traveling.

The Tutor should be a non-smoker, physically fit, imaginative and inventive. They must be a confident driver.
