Students
The twins are bright, inquisitive and competitive. They work well with their peers in school and are excited by learning.
The triplets have a wider spread of learning needs. They have had a more interrupted education so far and need to consolidate their background knowledge and skills before moving on towards the level of their older brothers. There is a suggestion that one of them displays some Autistic Spectrum behaviours, although there isn't an Educational Psychologist's assessment to that effect. He is sometimes withdrawn and requires extra attention in order to get him to engage with activities. Another can become frustrated when he doesn't immediately master a topic or when there are unexpected difficulties. It will be important for him to develop coping strategies and appropriate responses to the inevitable occasions when this will happen during his education.
The boys are all avid readers of both fiction and non-fiction. They have advanced computer literacy for their ages. Although they are all healthy children, none of them are particularly keen on sports.
Role of the Tutor
The Tutor will liaise with the teachers at the boys' school to ensure that any school homework is completed.
This position requires a youthful, energetic, enthusiastic and interesting teacher who has experience working with children of these ages. The Tutor should have the expertise and knowledge to design a safe program for the boys that encompasses the local resources. This must be achieved within a framework of constructive discipline based on respect and fairness with firmly established boundaries.
The Tutor must be organised, self-reliant, and independent. They should not require ‘hand-holding' for any aspect of the position. This role requires a Tutor who is highly flexible and able to adapt their plans to changes at short notice.
The boys' week is split between their parents. The Tutor will generally work with the children from Thursday - Sunday, the time that they spend with their father. On Thursday and Friday the Tutor will pick the boys up from school at 2pm and will work with them until their bedtime. On Saturday and Sunday the Tutor will work with the boys all day. Looking after five boys all day is more than a one-person job, so somebody else will be provided to help; the Tutor will be responsible for directing and managing that person. Monday and Tuesday will be days off. Wednesday will be a planning day.
The main focus of the role is to engage and inspire the boys to encourage a love of learning and to help them to develop enquiring minds. It is all too easy these days for children to spend too long watching television or playing computer games, and whilst it is recognised that there is some value in these activities they do not encourage independent thinking or healthy lifestyles.
The Tutor will be expected to organise interesting activities for the boys. As well as projects at home, these should include visits to local sites where the Tutor would add an educational bias - for example, a trip to the beach could include looking at the geology, wildlife, and economics of the area, as well as just playing.
The Tutor must be patient and able to pitch activities to different levels within the same group. Although the boys are all brothers of a similar age, they have very different learning styles, which must be individually addressed by the Tutor within the programme.
From time to time the Tutor will be asked to travel with the family. On these occasions the Tutor will be expected to research the location beforehand and to arrange preparatory activities with the children. During the trips the Tutor will organise tours, visits, activities and so forth, to help the children get the most from the opportunity.

Trips with the family may well overlap with the Tutor's normal days off, but this will be planned in advance and the Tutor will be given time off in lieu.
