Students
At 3 years old, the younger girl is a charming and bright child. She has a sense of mischief which she regularly engages in annoying her sister! The two have developed a healthy rivalry which can no doubt be utilised by a skilful Tutor. As is often the case with younger siblings, she is the more determined of the two girls. She has a strong personality and desire to keep pace with her older sister despite their age difference. She has not yet started school.
Both girls are very sporty – they are confident swimmers, play tennis, ski and have ballet lessons. They are happy, healthy children who enjoy being outdoors and active. There has been talk of introducing horse riding lessons as well as music classes to their extra-curricular activities, and doubtless both will take place in the course of time. The girls are charming, polite and fun to be around.
Role of the Tutor
The Tutor should be highly familiar with London and the vast range of educationally rich and fun activities it offers young children. Essentially the role is to act as a ‘tour guide’ to the city so that the girls’ memories of their visit is both long-lasting and educational.
The successful candidate for this role will need to be upbeat and have plenty of energy. This role requires a resourceful, intelligent and knowledgeable tutor who is relaxed and easy-going with a sunny disposition on the one hand whilst also firm, encouraging and sensible. They should set a good example for the children through their behaviour and conduct. It is important that the Tutor remembers that, although the family and working environment may be relaxed compared to formal schooling in Bahamas, it is essential to remain professional at all times and respectful of the family’s privacy.
Both parents are well read and are informed about many subjects including education theory. They are people who take the time to do their research and critically analyse the information they find, so it is important that the successful Tutor has a thorough understanding of current practices, and has enough pride in their profession to keep themselves up to date with new research and techniques.
The Tutor should be eloquent, able to explain concepts simply and able to inspire with his or her enthusiasm for any given subject. He or she should have a wide knowledge base and a range of extra-curricular skills and interests that they can share with the family. The Tutor should be a natural communicator with a kind and caring disposition, and a firm-but-fair approach to their work.
There may be some occasions when the Client is busy in the evenings and on these occasions the Tutor will be expected to remain with the girls until their parents return, in a baby-sitting capacity.
Hours and Holidays
The Tutor should not expect any days off during this 2-week period. Given the short nature of this contract, the Tutor is not entitled to any holiday allowance, and is expected to work on any public holidays Monday-Friday.
Accommodation, Travel, and Miscellaneous
The Client will be responsible for the Tutor’s full expenses arising from any travel required for the position throughout the contract term.
The Tutor should be a non-smoker, lead a physically active lifestyle, and be healthy and fit. He or she should be engaging, have a good sense of humour and a sunny disposition, and yet be a serious educator who understands his or her responsibility in this important role.
