Dublin (DUB-1206)
This position is not currently available.
A tutor with experience of the English primary school system is required from January 21 to July 21 2007, with a possible extension after that. The tutoring is for two boys aged 6 and 8, who will be homeschooled while the family relocate to Dublin.
Application deadline: Wednesday, May 2, 2012

Students

The boys have attended a private school in Surrey, but will be moving with their parents to Dublin in January 2007, for the remainder of the academic year. The elder boy is in year 3; the younger in year 2. The children are charming, polite, get on well with each other, and will be a pleasure to work with.

Both boys are intelligent and able. The 8-year-old is one of the eldest in his year and will benefit from a firm and calm approach. The 6-year-old is the youngest in his year and will thrive with a more nurturing approach. He has been receiving some extra support in maths, reading and writing, and it is hoped that one-on-one tuition will help these subjects along.

Role of the Tutor

The tutor will liaise with the current school (in Surrey) and ensure that the boys remain abreast of their peer group. There may be a few short periods when the boys return to their old school, with some assignments that need to be turned in, and perhaps other requirements the school requests from the tutor.

Sport is essential part of their lives, and the tutor will need to develop local opportunities to allow the boys to continue their swimming, tennis and football. The tutor will need to be sporty and, ideally, will enjoy skiing.

The ideal tutor will also have some musical ability, preferably piano. The family have dogs and a cat, so the tutor must like animals. It would be helpful, but not essential, if tutor has some French.

Hours and Holidays

This is a full time position. The tutor will work from 8.30 am till 3.30 pm, Monday to Friday. There may be some variation in this schedule, but is essential that a structured learning environment is created. It is anticipated that the tutor will do school work with each boy separately for 2 hours in the morning, then work with both together in a more recreational learning style for 2 hours after lunch.

There may be times when the parents will ask that the afternoon teaching time be replaced by evening child-minding duties. In addition, it is likely that additional time will be given off during the week in exchange for babysitting, dog walking, or house sitting.

The tutor will be entitled to 2 days off per week, usually at weekends, and to 4½ weeks paid holiday (over 6 months).

Other Aspects

The client will provide furnished accommodation for the tutor throughout the term of the contract. Meals occurring during working hours may be taken with the family.

The family will sometimes move between their homes in Ireland, England and France. When the tutor accompanies the family on these trips the client will cover all travel expenses.

The position will suit a well-educated and polite person who is resourceful and self-sufficient. He or she should be a non-smoker with a healthy lifestyle, who understands the importance of proper decorum in a variety of social settings.

The client recognises that a tutor relocating at short notice may have some expenses, such as those incurred by giving insufficient notice for termination of a rental agreement, or early termination of a current contract, or storage and relocation charges. The client is prepared to contribute to such costs if necessary.
