There are two children, a girl aged 12, and a boy aged 10, who have been home schooled on a full-time basis by Tutors International for 5 years and as such we have detailed descriptions of their achievements and progress.

The girl is an intelligent pupil with an effervescent and loving personality. She is ambitious to acquire knowledge and skills and is eager to please her tutors. She demonstrates the greatest aptitude so far in the humanities, and her reading, writing and comprehension skills are above the expected age range. She also enjoys the sciences and likes to learn through practical, real-life experiences. She has been developing her language skills in French, working with a qualified native French tutor who lives locally. She has also recently started Italian. Her least favourite subject is Maths, but she is working hard to achieve good results and is gradually becoming more confident in this area. Outside of school she attends theatre school. As well as performing regularly in the group showcases and exams, she also studies the individual drama and singing exams following Trinity College syllabus. She has shown a strong aptitude for the Performing Arts. She is a keen ballet dancer, having attended a local ballet school since the age of 4. She is currently studying for the intermediate foundation exam within the RAD dance syllabus. Furthermore, she enjoys and plays tennis regularly.

The boy is enthusiastic, kind-hearted and energetic with a strong work ethic. He performs academically at a high level and enjoys his schoolwork. He is naturally inquisitive, an attribute that is an asset in any educational programme. His progress attests to his application in all subject areas. Despite his age, he has moved away from the standard primary school education model and is being taught to a subject based timetable. He also studies French and Italian with the local tutor. Both children have music sessions via Skype built into their school day, with a qualified music teacher based in the UK. He also enjoys all sports, and is a good team player. He loves his football sessions, and trains within the competitive squad at a local football school. He is also a strong tennis player, and plays at competition level. He also attends and enjoys the same drama school as his sister.

The competencies of both pupils over an array of subjects and interests are testimony to their innate intelligence and appetite for learning. Both children are competent skiers.

This role involves teaching a classical English curriculum in an unconventional way. The Tutor will have the rigour of a classical education and the personality to enjoy things being done differently. This balance will enable them to respond positively to finding new ways of teaching that will inspire the children.

The Tutor will be responsible for teaching English, French, History, and Geography to both students in individual lessons. Ideally, they would be able to offer Italian or another language also, plus Art and Music. It is not absolutely essential that the Tutor is a qualified teacher, but they should have in-depth experience of teaching or come from a strong education background.

This appointment is initially for one year, but there is an option for annual renewals, as the children are likely to be home-schooled to the same stages as their older brother and sister. The Tutor will need to design and deliver a course that solidifies the extent of their schooling to date and progresses them at least as quickly as the best schools, but without being pressuring or overbearing.

It will be essential for the Tutor to maintain meticulous, up-to-date records of achievement for all the children and across all their subjects.

In addition to the formal teaching elements of this position, the successful applicant will have a genuine passion for the arts. They will be keen to pass on a love of literature, theatre, poetry, music, cinema, and all other artistic aspects of life to the children. These interests will be reinforced by a good degree in a relevant subject from one of the Russell Group universities or similar. The Tutor should also be interested in, and enjoy, world affairs, politics, and media as it is important that the children are well versed in these topics. The Tutor should have the intellectual scope to help develop the students into well rounded, intellectually curious world citizens.

The appointed candidate will be highly educated, intelligent, well-travelled, responsible, practical, and down-to-earth, with a sense of fun and a wide range of personal interests they can bring to the role. The Tutor needs to be a physically fit and active, and also be a native English speaker. The children will respond best to a young, positive, friendly and enthusiastic person who can provide a broad range education. An ability and willingness to be pro-active and enthusiastic is essential.

The Tutor will work closely with the Science and Maths tutor, who has been in post from the outset. The ability to work as part of a small team with him, and other teachers and family employees, is essential.

The family are very close and the Tutor will be expected to interact closely with the parents on a regular basis. Plans for travel and the detail of the daily routine are subject to change at short notice, so the Tutor will be expected to be flexible and able to adapt. It is anticipated that the Tutor will become an important figure in the children’s lives; they should expect to be involved in non-school activities and to become something of a role model.

There is a well-equipped, and dedicated schoolroom in all locations; the Tutors will be responsible for ensuring that it remains organised and properly stocked. The Tutors will also need to be responsible for packing and moving any teaching materials they wish to take between the locations or use during periods of travel.

This is a full-time position and, as far as possible, will need to follow a carefully planned timetable. The Tutor should expect to work around 40 hours per week with preparation in addition. The Tutors will be entitled to an average of two consecutive days off per week, normally at the weekend, but may need to be flexible regarding the family’s travel plans and the children’s other activities..

Although the schedule for a standard working day is fixed there will be times when a certain amount of co-operation and team-work is needed and expected. For example, a willingness to be involved with the children outside school, and to participate in events that are meaningful to them and the family in general, is important.

The Tutor will be entitled to 9 weeks (45 days) holiday per year. This will be taken at times agreed with the Client. It will usually be broadly in line with ‘standard’ school holiday periods.

Furnished accommodation will be available for the Tutors in all locations. This may be an apartment, house, or guesthouse at the Client’s properties.

As well as the family home, there are additional homes in Europe, which the family travel frequently between. In addition, the home schooling arrangement gives the family freedom to travel to other locations, and the Tutors should expect trips further afield.

The ideal applicant will be single, with plenty of experience, enthusiasm and energy. He or she will need a track record of preparing students for excellence and must be capable of adapting their working style to fit the variable circumstances of working with two children at home or while travelling.

The Tutor should be a non-smoker, physically fit, imaginative and inventive. They must be a confident driver.

The family are very close and are very keen for a friendly and fun learning environment to be built for their children. The Tutor’s attitudes to such things as invitations to join in after school activities, meals etc, is very important. A willingness to participate and be a pleasant companion for the whole family outside the classroom is required.
