The family will be based in Tenerife for the majority of the first year of the contract, with occasional short trips to Madrid, El Hierro (also in the Canaries) and Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The following years will involve much more travel, throughout the world, with longer stays in Providenciales, (aka Provo). The tutor will provide a stable educational pathway throughout this transitional period in the family’s life.
The boy is a lovely child, with a gregarious, engaging and charming demeanour. He is polite, easygoing and intelligent, with an active sense of humour. He is active and enjoys sports, and will be a real pleasure to tutor.
Role of the Tutor
It is anticipated that for first few months of the appointment the boy may continue to attend school on a part-time basis and work with the tutor for the remainder of the time. Particular attention will need to be given to his literacy and numeracy skills.
With changes of venue, the tutor should make extensive use of the educational opportunities afforded by the local environment in each location, developing a hands-on, creative and practical curriculum where possible. While some relatively formal study time should be included, the learning should always be fun, to fire a love of learning and exploration of the world around him.
The tutor will also be responsible for researching and developing opportunities for active social interaction with children around the same age. This may be through local sports clubs, hobby clubs, or arranging activities for the boy and his friends.
Hours, Holidays, Travel
The tutor will be entitled to 2 days off per week on average, which may not always coincide with weekends, and to at least 9 weeks paid holiday per annum.
The family will be travelling between the Turks and Caicos Islands and the Canaries. In the future, it is anticipated that there will be much more extensive travel in Europe, and probably the Pacific region. During these trips, the client will cover all the tutor’s travel and accommodation expenses.
Accommodation
At other locations, suitable accommodation will be arranged for the tutor, perhaps in a nearby hotel, or a guest room in the family’s home, or whatever is available.
Other Aspects
The ideal tutor will have some musical ability, (guitar or piano), and will enjoy nautical activities and skiing.
Preference will be given to applicants who can speak Spanish. (French would also be an advantage)
The tutor should share the family’s Christian values and be able to offer some bible study.
The tutor will be responsible for organising and paying for their own medical insurance.
The position will suit a well-educated and polite tutor who is resourceful and self-sufficient. The tutor should be a non-smoker who leads a healthy lifestyle, and who understands the importance of proper decorum in a variety of social circumstances.
