A specialized tutor is sought for an adult student, a highly intelligent and driven individual with multidisciplinary background. The student aims to achieve complete fluency in Mexican Spanish. Additionally, the role includes providing an hour of daily online Spanish instruction to his two daughters, aged 5 and 7, who reside in Australia. The role requires an in-person Mexican-Spanish or Colombian-Spanish instructor capable of relocating to Malta and available to travel flexibly with the student as needed.

Students

The primary student is an adult learner. Having grown up in Las Vegas and obtained a 6 in IB Spanish 17 years ago, his objective is to become completely fluent in Mexican-Spanish, encompassing all aspects of the language: speaking, reading, and writing. His commitment to this goal is high, and he requires formal, structured instruction with clear daily and weekly goals. This goal is personally motivated and demands a tailored approach that respects his adult learning style while being intensive enough to achieve fluency within a year. His learning style leans towards a structured and organised approach, necessitating a tutor who can provide formal instruction with a high level of organisation and clear objectives.

In addition to the main student, his two children, aged 5 and 7, will require one hour of daily instruction. These young learners are at the foundational stage of language acquisition. Their instruction should be highly engaging, interactive, and appropriate for their developmental stages.

Role of the Tutor

The Tutor’s primary responsibility is to create and implement a comprehensive, structured Spanish language program specifically tailored to the primary student’s goal of achieving fluency in Mexican-Spanish. This program must be methodically organised, offering a blend of formal instruction, practical applications, and regular assessments. The Tutor should be adept at utilising a variety of teaching methodologies, including but not limited to, the use of textbooks, multimedia resources, and immersive conversational practice, to cater to an adult learner’s needs.

In addition to the primary focus on the primary student, the Tutor will also be responsible for the linguistic development of his two daughters, aged 5 and 7. For the children, the Tutor must design an engaging and interactive Spanish learning experience that is appropriate for their age and cognitive level. This may involve creative teaching techniques such as storytelling, games, and other interactive activities that make learning Spanish enjoyable and effective for young learners.

The Tutor should be skilled at balancing the varying needs of the adult and child learners, ensuring that each lesson is productive and beneficial for their respective language learning journeys. Furthermore, the Tutor is expected to provide a high level of organisation in the planning and execution of the lessons. This includes setting daily and weekly goals, tracking progress, and adjusting the teaching plan as necessary to ensure the primary student's consistent advancement towards fluency. The Tutor should also be able to integrate cultural elements of Mexico and Colombia into the curriculum, thereby enriching language learning experience with a deeper understanding of the cultures associated with the language.

As the role may transition between in-person and online instruction, the Tutor should be prepared for this change and capable of maintaining the continuity and effectiveness of the teaching regardless of the format. The Tutor will need to move to Malta and accompany the primary student on his travels, providing a consistent and immersive learning environment.
