Students
The familys approach to education has been immensely successful and has resulted in two bright and happy children who love learning and who have a wide range of interests. The girls are highly articulate, self-assured, positive, and confident, with a clear sense of their individual strengths and weaknesses and of their short and long term goals.
Both girls love equestrian pursuits and both are keen riders. They have their own horses in stables outside London and ride daily. The decision to fit education around their chosen sport is an essential factor in the decision to continue to homeschool them at a time when the possibility of equestrian careers is taking shape.
The older child has many interests that she pursues with great energy. She has a high EQ, loves painting, drawing, crafts, knitting, and sports, including swimming. She also loves language and has expressed an interest in learning German, French, Spanish, or Italian. Above all is her love of horses. She has recently shown an interest in attending a 6th form college to study A levels, although University is not currently on the horizon.
The younger child loves many sports along with her riding, including tennis and swimming. She also loves cooking and gardening. She respects teachers who are fair and who communicate their expectations clearly. Her dream is to earn a living from her sport, and she is certainly putting in the commitment and training to keep this dream within reach.
The family has several animals including rabbits, cats, a dog, a hamster, and of course the horses.
Role of the Tutor
The older girl has expressed the ambition of going to sixth form college. To enable the opportunity that this might lead to further studies, Elsie will require a full complement of GCSEs and A-levels, with high marks. Coming from a background that has not included formal education or exam preparation, this educational goal will be an exciting challenge for a competent and able educator. Ideally, she will need to achieve this within the next 3-4 years, not previously having followed any particular academic path, and without the study skills one would normally have gained by this stage within a school setting. It is not known at this stage what her level is across her subjects, but she is highly motivated and eager to get started, and it is expected that any apparent deficit that might exist now will soon be erased through the efforts of the Tutor.
The younger child has rather more time to play with at the moment and as her life goals are not as academic as her sisters, there is less need to be as concerned about her studies. However, she and her parents are realistic, and they know that there are many obstacles in her path. This means that it is important that she keep pace with her peers in mainstream school so that all options remain open as the future unfolds.
Although the family have a relaxed lifestyle and have what might be considered a non-standard view of education, it is expected that the Tutor will keep the Client well informed of their teaching plans and any issues that arise, and that the relationship between the Tutor and the family will remain at all times respectful with appropriate private service professionalism and decorum.
Hours and Holidays
Although the Client will cover the cost of meals occurring during tutoring time, the Tutor and the girls may be responsible for preparing this themselves.
The Client acknowledges that the Tutor will need to do a great deal of preparation outside of their teaching time, and Tutor will be given adequate time and access to suitable resources for preparation during the weekday afternoons when the girls are riding.
Vacation allowance will be 9 weeks paid holiday per annum, taken at the convenience of the client.
Accommodation and Travel
A car is not provided for the use of the tutor, but if the tutoring role should require the use of one for an excursion, the family will make one available. It would be useful if the Tutor owns a car, but if the Tutor does not, the family will cover the cost of public transport for the duration of the assignment. The Tutor will need a clean driving license.
It is not anticipated that there will be any travel with the family, but in the event that this changes, the Client will be responsible for the Tutors full expenses in such circumstances.
