Southwest London (SWLON 0908)
This position is not currently available.
An experienced SEN teacher is required to home-school two fourteen year old girls in southwest London.

The Students

There are two girls aged fourteen. The girls are friendly and talkative, with a polite demeanour, and have a wide variety of interests. The girls enjoy many activities, including yoga, dance, music, art, running, non-competitive sports, cooking, sewing, computer games, and staying in touch with friends.

The girls have been assessed with a combination of ADD, NVLD and ASD. Detailed evaluations have been carried out and these will be made available to shortlisted candidates.

The Tutoring Role

The students currently have an academic age of around 7 or 8, and the ideal goal is to raise this by three years over the next few years. The Tutor will have a great deal of flexibility in developing the program of study with the girls, as long as good progress towards the overall goal is being achieved.

There is a well-resourced, separate schoolroom near the family home. The Tutor should not limit their work to classroom-based activities, but should develop the academic skills of the students through their interests. The girls respond well to a merit and reward system.

The family has a nanny who can be contacted during the school day should the need arise and who will help to arrange some of the after school activities for the girls. It is expected that the Tutor will be in regular communication with the family and nanny in regards to academic, emotional and social progress so that consistent strategies can be employed at school and home.

Hours, Holidays, and Travel

The school day will run from 8:45am - 4pm, Monday to Friday with a morning break and lunch break. It would be ideal that the Tutor utilise break times to help the girls develop their social skills.

There will be a minimum of 9 weeks paid vacation per annum.

The location of the assignment is in SW11. The Client will reimburse the Tutor monthly in arrears for public transport used during the previous month. The Tutor will need to keep the receipts or used tickets for this and supply a monthly spreadsheet.
