Colorado, USA (CO1204)
This position is not currently available.
The client has two sons aged 15 and 17, in grade 9 and 11 respectively. Both boys are involved in competitive snow-boarding and a tutor is required for full-time home-schooling within a distance learning program. It is expected that the eldest will graduate high school at the end of the 2005 academic year, and the younger one at the end of the 2006 academic year.
Application deadline: Tuesday, May 1, 2012

Education

The tutor will be required to support all the boys’ high school subjects, although specialist knowledge in each of these is not required - staying ahead of the students or learning with them will be sufficient in the tutor’s non-specialist areas. The main teaching subjects should be Language Arts and English, with a lesser emphasis on Science, Maths and Geography, plus consummate IT skills. A reasonable command of a main European language is also required, (Spanish preferred). The tutor will have to become a Colorado credentialed teacher and to take the Colorado driving test soon after commencing their contract.

Hours & Travel

It is anticipated that the tutor will average 3-4 hours per day of tuition - teaching the two boys together where possible - and a further 2-3 hours per day of supervised self-study. (The amount will vary across the year with less instruction during the winter months, and more in the summer.) There will be some travel with the boys when they compete, and occasionally the tutor will be required to look after them for a few days while their mother is away.

Attributes

The client is looking for a tutor with a broad international outlook - the appointed tutor will probably be a US teacher who has travelled and has international experience or a UK teacher with recent US experience. The right candidate will be someone with a love of winter sports, perhaps with a record of achievement in their own competitive sport, or with a background in sports psychology.
