The position will commence on 1 July and end on 31 August, 2009.
Students
The older student, a boy, is a 12-year-old middle child of an Upper East Side New York family. He will be entering the seventh grade, but is routinely assigned work far above his grade level. Furthermore, he is expected by the school to complete his work at a far higher level than one would anticipate normally from an average student his age. He is kind, sweet, and usually joyful, although he can be moody. He loves animals and some aspects of pop culture. He has some form of attention deficit, and sometimes has a self-esteem issue, but neither of these issues present when he is working with an upbeat, entertaining and organised educator.
The younger child, a girl, is 8 and is a happy and clever young girl. She has a lovely personality, and is a pleasure to spend time with. She is doing well at school so far and has a busy and active life outside her studies.
The Tutoring Role
The Tutor will also work for 1 hour each day with the girl. It is hoped that this summer she will learn her multiplication tables and improve her ability to cope with word problems in Math.
Organization is a key component to this job. The Tutor is responsible for making sure that the children keep their desks and papers tidy and filed so that they can access materials at any time.
The ideal Tutor for this position will have thorough knowledge in the required subjects, but will also have a sense of fun and be able to work with the children with a light-hearted disposition which is nonetheless rigorous. It is, after all, the summer vacation.
Hours and Holidays
No vacation entitlement is included during this 2-month assignment.
Accommodation, Fees, and Miscellaneous
The Client will provide travel costs to and from the home of the Tutor as per the Terms of Business.
A car will be provided, or the Tutor may provide his own car if preferred. It is essential that the Tutor hold a clean driving licence.
The position is for 2 calendar months.
It should be noted that the same Client is looking for a new Tutor to work with the boy once the family return to Manhattan after the summer. It is possible that the summer Tutor may be considered for the long term contract that follows and the sooner that the Tutor makes their wishes known at this level the better.
