Amsterdam, Netherlands (AM0105)
This position is not currently available.
PLEASE NOTE:
Some fluency in Dutch would be useful but is no longer a requirement. What is required is immediate availability.

A friendly, kind, but also well-disciplined tutor is required to work with a girl aged 10. Unfortunately, through a history of accidents and illnesses, the girl’s academic development has slipped, and the school in Amsterdam won’t accept her at her current grade. The family are therefore looking for a tutor, to start as soon as possible, who can work with the girl at home, to bring her up to the standard required for acceptance into grade 6 in August. (There is also a brother, aged 14, and some work with the boy is expected, primarily in Maths.)

Education

The language of instruction at the girl’s school will be English, likewise the tutoring. The tutor should be able to work with the student across all her subjects, in the IB system, mirroring what the school is doing, and filling in gaps in her knowledge. (This will require regular liaison with the school.)

Up until August, the tutor will work with the girl around 7 hours per day. It is not expected that this time be spent entirely in formal study – there are plenty of learning opportunities afforded by the locale which should be utilised to provide a rich learning experience.

Other factors

In addition to general subjects, the ideal tutor should be musical, perhaps playing the piano or guitar. The family have another home in Mallorca, and some grasp of Spanish would be useful. (Indeed, the early part of the contract may see more time spent in Mallorca than the Netherlands.)

After the girl has been accepted at the school, the tutor will remain working with her, ensuring that she is keeping up, and that good study habits are being developed. There is a reasonable likelihood that the contract may be extended beyond this initial period.

Contractual details

  • Start: The tutor must be ready to start in late February
  • Duration: Initially for 1 year; likely to be extended
  • Hours: 7 hours a day (until August)
  • Salary: Between £36-40,000 (to be agreed)
