Park Lane, London (LON-0907)
This position is not currently available.
An experienced Speech Therapist, EFL, and general subject teacher is required to work after school with two children in central London.

This is a long-term position.

Application deadline: Tuesday, May 1, 2012

Students

The family have recently relocated from Saudi Arabia and have a girl aged 13 (in year 8) and a boy of 10 (in year 5). Both children attend an international school full time, but need help with their studies and their homework after school across the usual range of subjects.

When the children were in Saudi Arabia they attended an Arabic school, but the girl received a significant level of instruction in English and speaks it well. The boy, though, has not been taught anything like as much English. He receives special classes at school to accelerate this aspect of his schooling, but will benefit from working with a teacher who has EFL experience

In addition, the boy has a stutter, which is marked in Arabic - when he is nervous or anxious it is worse. This speech impediment now requires intervention, and a tutor with experience in this area is required.

Role of the Tutor

The boy’s stutter needs the support of a speech therapist who can help the young man develop techniques to become a fluent speaker. This will require someone qualified in this particular area of SEN. In addition, the boy’s limited English requires a tutor with some English Language or EFL training.

The girl is excited at the prospect of having a tutor to help her with her homework in the early evenings after school, and to fill in any gaps in understanding she may have encountered during the day. She will also enjoy having a tutor to help her prepare for any tests or presentations she might have to give at school.

There are significant differences between the educational system in Saudi Arabia and how the children are being taught now. Therefore, the ideal Tutor will not only have speech and language training, but will also be a good generalist, able to contribute across all areas of the childrens’ classes at school.

Hours and Holidays

The tutor will come to the family home in central London 5 days a week, Sunday to Thursday, from 5pm to 8pm. (15 hours per week)

It is expected that the tutor will split their time equally between the children, who will be taught separately.

Holidays will be in accordance with our Terms of Business, ie. 9 weeks paid holiday per annum.
