Vienna (AUT 1225.1)

An able, polished and experienced educator is required for a one-year assignment, initially, beginning in February 2026. The role focuses on supporting the academic progress, English-language maintenance, and general weekend supervision of three school-aged siblings: a girl aged 14 (8th grade), and two boys of 11 (6th grade) and 9 (3rd grade). All three children are bright, active and well-adjusted, and already supported by a Tutor.

The role will involve frequent travel to the client’s family home in Kitzbühel and possibly further afield.

Application deadline: January 31, 2026

Students

Practically bilingual in English and German, the eldest child is an excellent student across all subjects, with a notable predisposition for the natural sciences. She is witty, outgoing, sociable, and strikingly mature for her age. A highly independent learner, she does not require constant close academic supervision but will benefit from the Tutor’s presence as a stable adult reference point should her parents not be at home. She enjoys meaningful conversation and engages naturally across a wide range of topics.

Exceptionally intelligent and intuitive, the middle child possesses strong logical–mathematical abilities. He has been diagnosed with Legasthenie (specifically dysorthographia). His English comprehension — both oral and written — is excellent, and his spoken English is rich and fluent for his age. Written production, however, presents consistent spelling challenges in both English and German due to the certified SpLD. He delights in logical activities, problem-solving games, challenge-based video games, and especially building Lego. Sociable, articulate and deeply engaged in conversation, he is not always fully autonomous with homework, but he is already supported during the week by a long-standing Tutor. The new Tutor’s role will consist of occasional weekend academic support as needed.

A lively and outgoing child, the youngest is very sociable and physically active. He loves all outdoor pursuits, particularly football, and shows a natural inclination towards mathematical thinking. He tends to rush through homework and therefore requires gentle guidance to cultivate focus and accuracy. The Tutor must continue speaking English with him consistently in order to maintain the strong fluency he has developed. He understands almost everything that is said to him, with only occasional lexical gaps. His spoken English is generally very clear, although at times it may present some syntactical or grammatical imprecision, as well as blends of German and English in the same sentence. Continuous conversation and gentle modelling of correct structures are key to his progress.

Role of the Tutor

The principal responsibilities of the Tutor are to maintain and develop the children’s spoken English through natural, immersive interaction, to support with homework at weekends, especially for the youngest child, to serve as the responsible adult when parents are absent, particularly during weekends, to drive the children from Vienna to their home in Kitzbühel during the ski season.

The Tutor will work primarily through experiential and conversational engagement rather than formal lessons. The family values an educator who can spark curiosity, encourage independence and provide structure without heaviness. The Tutor should be an excellent communicator, a patient and engaging educator, and a kind role model for the children.

An organised, self-reliant, positive disposition as well as a professional demeanour are essential. The Tutor should be fit, active, and a non-smoker. A driver’s licence and several years of driving experience is required.

Hours, Holidays, Accommodation and Travel

The Tutor should see their commitment as running from midday Friday to midday Monday. More specifically the hours are generally Friday 12pm-9pm, Saturday and Sunday 7am to 9pm, and Monday 7am to 12pm. On occasions when both parents are away overnight, the Tutor will be in loco parentis.

The rest of the week (noon Monday to noon Friday) is off.

The Tutor will have a minimum of 9 weeks off per annum, to be taken at times agreed upon with the family. The Tutor will be flexible with respect to any changes in schedule, be they travel-related or otherwise and will adapt accordingly. The Client will strive to give up to two weeks’ notice of any planned alterations.

The Tutor will be provided with a furnished apartment within a reasonable distance from the family home in Vienna. In Tyrol, the Tutor will have their own accommodation space within one of the family’s residences, but it will not be suitable for the Tutor to bring any guests to that accommodation. The rent, utilities and Internet for this apartment will be arranged and paid for by the Client. The Client is not responsible for the Tutor’s personal phone bills.

When travelling, accommodation will vary, with some locations requiring the Tutor to live in with the family in a rented house, and other locations where the Tutor will have their own hotel room. The Client will always be mindful that the Tutor is a professional and should have appropriate privacy whenever possible.

Miscellaneous

The Tutor will be physically fit and healthy, a non-smoker. It would extremely beneficial if the Tutor could speak German to a good standard.
